The workplace in the 2030’s will have merged into a creative and sustainable environment where the development of technology is the basis for the space. As new jobs are created and old jobs disappear, the 2030’s workplace will be a decentralised hierarchical structure with more opportunities for empowerment. We are approaching an era where the traditional 9-5 working lifestyle will only be recognised as song lyrics with working hours being predicted to drop to 36 hours per week by 2030.

Office Designs in the 2030’s

Technology:

In the future, technology will be present in all human activity. Technological development means there will be no need for fixed desks and instead, wearable technology and projections from small devices such as our smartphones will be the centre of access for work. Telepresence becomes the norm in 2030 and people will turn to more flexible areas for work and communication such as coffee shops and coworking spaces.

Sustainability:

Millennials and younger generations are known to be more environmentally conscious. The architecture of office spaces in 2030 is expected to be sustainable with attention to wellness, clean energy, health, and innovation.

Wellness:

The flexibility of the future is a ‘mosaic of individual experience’. Workplaces in the future will have onsite gyms, childcare, breastfeeding facilities, and if we have followed in Google’s footsteps, expect nap pods on site too! Parents can see their children whilst being at work, look after their health and ensure a balance in a social and working life.

Office Culture in the 2030’s

The progressive nature of coworking spaces will allow people to get their work done whilst getting their needed human interactions. This type of interaction will provoke and promote communication. Nick Donnelly, a co-founder WorkClub commented: “Coworking spaces have acted like a unit where all this energy and communication has brought togetherness and the energy is what helps each individual thrive”. As people becoming more independent, the increase of individual expressiveness draws in a combined intelligence as a team.  The future is always unpredictable but coworking spaces will be the go-to for people to not only work, but to feel a sense of comfort while working.

Office Attire in the 2030’s

In the 2030’s, business attire will remain as a standardised formality in the workplace where employees will adhere to the conducts of the workplace. Wearable technology will become a normality in outfits as they become a reliant device for employees.

Women in the Workforce in the 2030’s

The future is female! By 2030, women will have gained more equality with men as the pay gap continues to slowly close. The average expectancy of women is higher than for males so the ratio of males to females will increase. The retirement age becomes higher and people will approach more part-time jobs towards retirement to remain active. The decentralised hierarchical structure continues to grow giving women more empowerment in the workplace with more dominance and opportunities for leadership.
