Plutio was born out of frustration trying to run a freelance business using multiple apps. It is the most intuitive and deeply customisable platform you will ever need to start, run and grow your business.
We managed to get Plutio Founder, Leo, to join us for our recent webinar on how to successfully build a tech startup and have a follow-up Q+A to share with you.
Leo, what made you create Plutio?
Plutio was born out of frustration trying to run a freelance business using multiple apps..
However fun and satisfying freelancing can be, I had to constantly jump between apps, duplicate data between apps, pay multiple subscriptions and then use even more apps to “connect” them all together - I was sunk in a productivity maze, which pulled me back from growing the business.
So I've decided to build Plutio when i’ve come to realise that fellow freelancers all over the world face similar hurdles.
Where did your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from the amazing community behind Plutio. A growing and strong community of fellow freelancers and business owners who help shape the future of Plutio. My fuel and inspiration comes from the community.
How did you get started in the tech scene?
I moved to London and started attending events and meet-ups, as well as hosting my own. Meet fellow founders and like minded people. I then also divorced that there were many online startup communities on sites like Facebook, which made it easier to connect and build new partnerships.
What were some of the challenges you faced, if any, in the early stages of Plutio?
I didn’t know how to code very early on and there were almost no resources to help us none-techies to start out without having to hire a developer.
I had to teach myself how to code which was challenging but possible.
Can you share one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur just getting started with his/her ‘big idea’?
The time of needing to hire an agency or developers to turn your ideas into reality has long gone. The internet is now packed with apps and tools that enables you to turn your own ideas into businesses without writing a single line of code.
https://www.makerpad.co/ is a fantastic community to discover how you can build your next idea, code free. And https://bubble.io is a great product that helps you build apps using a visual drag and drop editor.
How has Covid impacted Plutio?
We were not actually affected by Covid, only had a couple of cancellations, however, we did everything we can to support the freelance community across the world. More on that here: https://blog.plutio.com/coronavirus-how-were-supporting-you-and-your-business/
What’s next for Plutio?
Our vision is to bring the technology and power of AI to the self-employed, like never before.
What’s one of the most important lessons you’ve learned on your journey to success?
Having people that compliment your skills-set to join you on your journey to building your idea certainly is a great way to go, but don’t let be the only way to go. If you can’t find those people then can still do you it, it may take you a little longer and a little more effort to learn a few more things but it is possible.
